Suspend

The Suspend feature determines whether the Backup Client will perform backups in the background.

With Suspend On, the backups will pause when the software detects keyboard or mouse activity. When the activity stops, the backup will continue. This will prevent the backup from making your PC or Internet connection seem slow while you are working. Use this setting with an older PC or when using dial-up Internet.

With Suspend Off, backups will run in the background even when you are using the system. If you have a newer PC and high speed Internet, you will probably not notice the backup is running.

Number of Versions to Save

Every time a file is backed up, it is stored as a new version. Versions allow you to restore an older version of a file even if it has been backed up several times since. The server always keeps the original file but the number of additional versions is configurable.

Versions are usually much smaller than the original file. They contain only the data that has changed since the last time the file was backed up. For example, an Outlook PST file might be 100Mb in size, but each incremental version may contain only about 1Mb of changed data.

You can see the sizes and number of versions by logging into the web portal and selecting a file.

Minimum Delay Between Versions

New files are backed up as soon as they are available. This setting controls the amount of time that must pass before the next version of the file is backed up.

Having multiple versions of a file backed up is not as useful if the versions are only 15 minutes apart. By extending the time between backups, you can make several more revisions to the file over this time without creating versions that are too similar to each other. After this time has passed, the file will again be considered for backup.

Language Preference

This allows you to select the language used for the Backup Client user interface.

Log Level

Our Software keeps a constant record of what it does on your computer in text files called log files. They can help both you and us troubleshoot matters of missing or incomplete backups. By default the level at which we record our activity is set to "normal". However, should you experience a problem where you believe certain files are missing from the backup, these log files will give you some insight into the matter. Changing the Log Level from "normal" to "high" will increase the amount of details offered by the files. Should you wish to do this, change the level to "high" and wait a few minutes to allow the system to record the activity. Now, click on Report which is located on our main backup window to obtain the high-level log file.

Remember to change the Log Level back to "normal" afterwards. This will prevent the log files from taking up too much space on your computer.

Bandwidth/CPU Allocation

This setting controls the amount of Internet and computing resources used by the Backup Client. By default, the Backup Client will use as much bandwidth and computing resources as it needs.

If you are sharing a small network with multiple PCs, you may want to reduce the allocated bandwidth so as not to inconvenience the other users. If you are using a Voice Over IP Internet Telephony service and find the backup is interfering with your telephone conversations, reduce the allocated bandwidth.

Similarly, if you have a slower PC and need to run backups in the background while you are working, reducing this setting will help the Backup Client to be less invasive.

Update the System Clock

With an online backup, it is very important that your PC's system clock is correct. If the Backup Client detects that your time is incorrect, it will automatically change it. If you experience any problems with this feature, you can choose to turn it off.

Enable Browser Access

This setting controls the ability to access your data through the website. If set to Yes, you can log on to the website to download or delete files from any web browser. If set to No, you can only access your data through the Restore Client.

Password Protect Settings

This option controls whether or not you are prompted for the username and password when you try to open the Settings dialogue box. You may choose to keep this setting on if you are using a shared computer.
