Files and folders which were backed up by the client can be restored from the client. This is the recommended method when dealing with only a small amount of data. If you need to install the software on your system, see the Quick Start section of this guide. If you need to restore a large amount of data, we recommend you to do that through the Web Portal.
Restoring Procedure
- Double-click on the icon
located in the Windows toolbar (usually the bottom right-hand corner of your screen) to launch the Backup Client
- Click the Restore button. Enter your username and password.
- You will be presented with a list of all of your backed up systems under the column marked Names. If you want to restore the entire volume, simply checkmark entire volume and click on Restore.
- If you only want to restore certain subfolders or files, click the [+] beside the volumes to expand the directory tree and checkmark all the specific folders and files you wish, and click Restore.
- To restore a previous version of a file, click the [+] sign beside the filename, and you will see all the past versions of the file as well as the dates they were backed up. Checkmark the version you wish to restore, and click Restore.
- You have the option to overwrite existing files and the option to include subfolders. It is recommended to restore to a new directory just to protect yourself from overwriting any files you did not intend to overwrite. Also, you have the option, "Unattended Mode" where the restore will not stop if it encounters an error. Make sure you review the logs if you use this feature.
- Enter the directory name into which you would like to restore beside C:\. The Default is set to save the restored files to the folder C:\Restore.
Note: We highly recommend that you make sure the folder to which you are downloading is empty before you begin the restore. This will help avoid any problems that may be encountered during the restore process.
- Click Restore. The files will begin to download onto your computer.
If you want to overwrite a file, you can select the root of the file as your restore path/destination folder and checkmark "overwrite existing files".
You may change the destination folder to wherever you wish, however, we recommend that you use the Restore folder first and then move your restored files to their proper locations. This will avoid overwriting files that should not have been overwritten.
Also, the Restore utility is designed to restore the entire file path. This helps you remember the original location of a restored file. For example, if you were to download the file "file.txt" which is located in C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents, it would then be accessable at the end of a string of folders (which will appear in C:\Restore or your Destination Folder) which would go: C:\ -> Documents and Settings -> User -> My Documents.
