Restored Outlook files cannot be directly opened up in the Outlook program. Instead, they need to be imported into Outlook. Below are the detailed instructions:
Procedure
- Open Outlook (you need to have an outlook account set up to do this, even if you don't have any mail associated with it)
- Go to "File" on the menu bar
- Select "Import and Export"
- Choose "Import from another program or file"
- Click Next
- Choose "Personal Folder File (.pst)"
- Click Next
- Browse for the restored outlook file
- Highlight the file and click Open
- Select "Allow duplicates to be created"
- Click Next
- Click Finish
The information from the backed up Outlook file will be restored into the inbox of the current outlook account.
