Firewall Configurations

Sometimes Personal Firewall programs try to block your backup software from contacting the Internet.

Personal Firewall software should generally prompt you the first time our program tries to access the Internet. It will ask you to grant the software permission to access the Internet. Even though the firewall will recommend blocking access, it is very important that you grant full access. If you do not grant us permission, the backup software can not work. Specifically, the files that need to access the Internet are BACKUP.EXE and RESTORE.EXE.

From time to time, our software will automatically download program updates to keep your version up to date. After these updates, your firewall software may again ask you to grant the program permission. It is very important that you grant permission each time you see this message.

If you suspect that a firewall is preventing the backup software from connecting to the internet, you can configure it to make sure that the required files are on the Allowed list. Detailed instructions for several popular firewalls are below:
